I have been packaging for 7 years and have an in-depth understanding of Packaging and deployment using Windows Installer and all technologies associated with it.

CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS:                                                                                              

  • Became an integral part of Norwich Union - I was only one of 3 permanent software engineers serving the whole of Norwich Union UK
  • Learned MSI packaging over the space of a few months as well as the Radia deployment aspect          
  • My role in the company was office based remotely over 200 miles away from the head office proving that I can work to a very high level independently
  • Assisted in the migration of the Norwich Union Application Packaging role to an off-shore vendor

MSI Application Packager

Working with 5 other application packagers to package software to best practices and company standards for deployment via SMS2000/2003 to Vista and XP workstations. Test functionality of the MSI packages for Vista deployment. Working to company specified SLA’s using a combination of Adminstudio, Orca and in-house written VB tools to create and modify the MSI/MST, validate and conflict solve. This role covers software discovery, application packaging including Vista remediation and UAT. For the first 2 weeks of the contract I was involved in the software discovery process for the application packaging, recommending any changes to the existing company processes.

Accountabilities:

  • Assistance in the development and publication of processes and standards that support the Application Packaging function.
  • Application discovery – discovery of all aspects required for application installation, dependencies and configuration. Packaging of applications using appropriate tools in line with company standards.
  • Working to assigned priorities of applications and application suites.
  • Validation of Internal and Application Consistency Evaluators.
  • Co-ordination of User Acceptance Testing of packaged applications.
  • Creation of various scripts to assist with tasks related to the Application Packaging role.
  • Documentation of all tasks, activities, relating to the Application Packaging role.

Application Packager

 

I was one of 3 permanent packagers looking after the packaging for clients in the UK. My role was to package applications into the MSI format using Macrovision Adminstudio and make them available to users for automatic installation using SMS and Radia to NT and XP workstation. I also managed software updates, patches, process improvement and fault resolution for existing packages.

Senior PC Support Technician/Team Leader

Senior Support Technician assisting in running a team of 6 engineers supporting 2000+ XP and Citrix workstations and a multitude of different server builds. Performed new installs and fault diagnosis/resolution. Worked on many projects and rollouts including the Year 2000 delivery of new PC’s, applications and servers allowing a seamless move for the Norwich Union PC environment in to the Year2000.

PC Support Technician

Worked in a team of 6 engineers supporting 1000+ PC’s and servers running a mixture of NT 4.0 and NT 3.51. Provided new installs and fault diagnosis/resolution for 3 offsite locations working to very tight Service Level Agreements. Rolled out NT to 300+ PC’s. Role required (extensive/frequent) out of hours work and allowed demonstration of flexible/adaptable characteristics in the workplace.

Operational Prover

Worked as an operational prover in a team of 6. Responsible for testing a multitude of DEC/VMS programs that were to be delivered to the Live environment.
